Waymo Suggests Otto Was A Cover-Up To Steal Alphabet's Tech

Waymo, an Alphabet company, is alleging in court that Otto was created as a "cover-up scheme" so that Uber could steal autonomous vehicle technology. Otto was a self-driving truck startup that ended up being acquired by Uber.
Otto co-founder, Anthony Levandowski, is accused of stealing information from Waymo and bringing it with him to Uber.
We've learned that Uber and Levandowski together created a cover-up scheme for what they were doing. They concocted a story for public consumption. The story was that Mr. Levandowski left Waymo for his own company.- Charles Verhoeven, lawyer, Waymo
This claim was presented during a hearing intended to decide if Uber should be kept from continuing its autonomous vehicle work pending a trial.
In Waymo's version of events, it's now alleging close cooperation between Otto and Uber from the beginning. That cooperation was partly based around Levandowski's theft of 14,000 Waymo files.
