HBO will no longer offer its shows through Amazon Prime come 2018. CEO Richard Plepler says one of the reasons the deal is ending is that HBO Now has experienced a lot of "momentum" in the recent past.
Under the deal, Amazon Prime was allowed to be the exclusive third-party provider of HBO series that had ended at least 3 years earlier. This gave it access to popular series like The Sopranos and The Wire.
The deal was signed in 2014 and HBO entered into a four-year agreement for around $250 to $300 million.
