Imagination Technologies' partnership with Apple is coming to a close in under two years, at which point Apple will switch to using its own graphics chip. The British company, which has provided its PowerVR processors for iOS devices, revealed the transition.
It was told by Apple that a "separate, independent graphics design" will be used, which will mean "reducing its future reliance on Imagination's technology."
This will be a significant loss for Imagination. The company gets around half its revenue from Apple. It'll no longer receive royalties on devices arriving in 15-24 months.
