Apple may be working on standalone AR and VR headset

Speculations of Apple entering the AR and VR industry have been rife for more than a year now. Now, a report by CNET suggests that the company is working on its own standalone AR and VR headset, which will apparently combine both the technologies. The headset will apparently be ready for the market by 2020, so we still have to wait for quite a bit.
CNET doesn’t have a lot of information yet, but it’s a development nevertheless. Apple has been expected to go big on the VR and AR markets for a while now. The company unveiled its ARKit platform earlier, which allows developers to build apps for the iOS operating system. Given that it’s been about a year since that unveiling, it seems like a good time for Apple to start working on accompanying devices.
Apple is working on its own standalone AR and VR headset, which will apparently combine both the technologies.
According to CNET, the headset Apple is building will have 8K displays for each eye, which is double of what the best VR headsets can offer right now. The headset will apparently understand its surroundings as well using 60GHz WiGig technology. It will use an Apple processor as well, CNET’s source told the publication.
'Bring a poster to life in your app with ARKit 1.5.' says Apple
What we can ascertain from Apple’s history though is that the headset will only work with iPhones. The company’s accessories don’t usually work outside its ecosystem and the Apple Watch is a prime example of that.
