The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is turning to tech companies to see if facial recognition can be developed that'll work against people in moving vehicles. It wants to identify individuals as they cross the border without them having to leave their car.
It wants companies to submit proposals to January 2018 and the DHS is holding an "industry day" on November 14 to provide more details about the project to interested businesses. The DHS hopes companies will facilitate the creation of some of the most advanced facial recognition ever attempted.
The agency describes a system that works while people are in their cars and while people are wearing sunglasses, hats, and other things that make recognition more difficult.
