Tesla Fired 700 People In Q3, Elon Musk Disapproves Of Media's Coverage

Tesla has recently gone through rounds of performance-related layoffs and it got rid of 700 people during the third quarter for that reason. CEO Elon Musk says he's not happy with how these firings have been covered by the media in recent months.
It's not getting rid of employees because Tesla "believes in being mean." Rather, the individuals who've lost their jobs weren't able to cut it at the company. Headlines critical of Tesla have come from "journalists and editors without integrity."
Any journalists who've written articles to this effect [about the firings] should be ashamed of themselves, - Musk
He says the standards are where they are because if they were to be lowered the company would "die." As a result, firings are necessary and Musk doesn't believe they should be covered in a critical way.
