YouTube Takes Step To Address Monetization Issues, Will Restrict Fewer Videos

The monetization system on YouTube has been problematic for quite some time, leading to complaints from creators and from advertisers. Creators often say their videos are unfairly demonetized (or restricted) while advertisers have pointed to cases of their ads being shown on inappropriate content.
Because YouTube runs on ad revenue, the company is widely perceived as having responded to those issues in a way that was more favorable to advertisers than creators. But it's trying to find a balance.
YouTube says it has improved its algorithm such that there will be a 30% drop in the number of videos "receiving limited ads" due to a restriction of their monetization status. The algorithm has been "trained and improved" to better detect which videos should actually see their ads limited or fully removed.
For your channel, you may see icons that were previously yellow turn to green. You may also see icons that were previously green turn to yellow — this updated system is an improvement, but it's not perfect. We know there's much more work to do, so if you feel the yellow icon is a mistake, please continue to appeal.- YouTube
