The continuing move towards mobile devices away from desktops is putting more consumers at risk, says Kaspersky. Its latest Cybersecurity Index highlights the rising use of mobile devices for email, shopping, and other activities that could be compromised due to a relative lack of protection on phones and tablets.
Kaspersky's research indicates 67% of people now access emails on mobile devices, up from 59% last year. And 50% use them for online shopping, up from 41%.
Only 41% of users say they have security protection on their devices, meaning they may not be adequately protected against malware. Kaspersky's data also suggests more people are becoming victims. 27% say they've been a victim of cybercrime.
Irrespective of people's age and occupation, the focus of their digital lives is increasingly shifting onto mobile devices -- people trust them with their secrets, files, confidential information, money and many other things...However, cybercriminals are also shifting their tactics and are increasingly attacking mobile platforms. It is therefore imperative that modern smartphones and tablets be as protected as our computers. In addition to safeguarding our own devices, people need to look out for each other and help friends and family members to practice safe Internet usage to reduce the risks they face.- Kaspersky
