Waymo Built A Fake City To Test Autonomous Vehicle Tech

Alphabet's Waymo has constructed an entire fake city in the California desert. Known as Castle, the facility features cars, cones, signs, and mannequins. This provides the company with a way to try out its most experimental autonomous vehicle technology before putting it on the road.
Facilities of this sort aren't new. One of the most well-known is the University of Michigan's Mcity. The university worked with Ford, GM, Nissan, and others to create a testing ground for autonomous vehicles.
Waymo's Castle covers 100 acres and only features roads, driveways, and intersections. Buildings are absent from the testing area.
