GM has confirmed some of its early Chevy Bolt EVs have a battery issue that could lead to them losing power without a clear reason. The battery problem affects 1% of the Bolts on the road, which comes out to ~100 vehicles. When the issue is present, the car can experience an "unexpected loss of propulsion."
This issue is only found in the earliest vehicles manufactured by the company.
GM says the car may claim to have more range than it actually does. This could lead to people continuing to drive despite actually having very little charge, which could then result in a loss of power.
The problem can be fixed by repairing bad batteries or replacing them.
