Microsoft is expanding what its Windows Mixed Reality platform can be used for. Headsets running that system, which are coming from Acer, HP, Dell, and others, will work with SteamVR games. Support for SteamVR will be present from the day the system launches.
The first mixed reality headset for the platform will be out later this year. You'll be able to use those mixed reality headsets to experience virtual reality content, with the experience mimicking that of the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift.
The introduction of Windows Mixed Reality headsets is a big step forward for VR. Working with Microsoft to include Steam VR compatibility with these devices is also a big step in growing VR as an open platform for developers and consumers. With a broad range of hardware options available from leading PC manufacturers, the Steam community will have more choice than ever to experience the amazing potential of VR.- Joe Ludwig, Valve
