Microsoft's 'Seeing AI' App Helps Blind People Understand The World

Seeing AI, a new app from Microsoft, can help blind people understand the world using their smartphone and AI-based software. The app has just been released for free on iOS. With it, users can point their phone's camera at a person to learn their name (if they've been recognized before) and apparent emotional state, or they can point it at an object to see what it is.
This technology was initially demonstrated by Microsoft in March 2017. Now it's entering smartphones, at least those running iOS. No Android release date has been mentioned.
Seeing AI can also read/scan documents and distinguish between US currency values, which is particularly helpful since dollar bills are the same size and color.
The app can also direct the user to point their camera in a different location in order to get an accurate result.
