Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of Kaspersky Labs, says he's willing to testify in front of Congress and is fine showing the US government the company's source code. According to the executive, he's willing to do whatever is necessary to prove Kaspersky doesn't have ulterior motives.
His controversial willingness to hand over source code comes in response to a proposal in the Senate that'd prevent the Defense Department from working with Kaspersky software. As the proposal says, all instances of Kaspersky's software being used would immediately be "severed."
The Russian company denies any connection to the Russian government, but some in the US are concerned it may not be a good software provider for agencies like the Defense Department. Kaspersky wants to prove it's not an issue.
It'd be a worrying precedent for the company to hand over its source code. Doing so may expose vulnerabilities in Kaspersky's software that could be exploited by the US government.
