A lawsuit against Facebook over its tracking of logged out users has been tossed out by a judge in California. The case was based around the claim that Facebook has violated wiretapping and privacy laws by tracking users via Like buttons even when people aren't logged in.
Judge Edward Davila found there was a complete lack of evidence that Facebook ever illicitly "intercepted" communications and the plaintiffs didn't show "realistic" harm or loss.
A version of the same case was also thrown out by Davila in 2015 and the case overall has been going for five years. With this latest ruling, the plaintiffs can't continue pursuing the same privacy and wiretapping claims.
