App Annie has released a report predicting a significant growth in the global app economy over the next four years. According to the report, the economy will be worth $6.3 trillion by 2021, rising significantly from last year's $1.3 trillion. The global user base will also grow to 6.3 billion, up from 3.4 billion.
That growth in app usage and spending corresponds with an anticipated rise in smartphone adoption around various Asian, Middle Eastern and African markets.
The time spent in apps is also expected to grow from 1.6 trillion hours to 3.5 trillion.
App Annie's revenue estimate is based on income from in-app ads, app stores, and mobile commerce.
Users, on average, generate $379 in apps per year. That figure will rise to $1,008 per user by 2021.
