Uber Opening Autonomous Vehicle Facility In Canada

Uber is expanding its autonomous vehicle efforts to Canada. The company is opening a new office in Toronto that'll be focused on improving self-driving vehicle systems. It's specifically interested in the areas of machine perception and AI that'll help with machine vision.
Raquel Urtasun, an associate professor from the University of Toronto, will lead the facility's researchers. Urtasun started the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Toronto. That organization is receiving $5 million from Uber.
Eight of Urtasun's students are joining Uber's efforts and they'll be supplemented by "several dozen" other people.
