Tesla's Solar Roof Faces Competition From Startup's Cheaper, Efficient Solution

Tesla isn't the only one with a solar roof product in the US. Forward Labs, a California startup, has launched its own solar roof that'll be a competitor to Tesla's solution. Forward Labs' product is cheaper, more efficient, and easier to install.
Because the technology uses monocrystalline solar cells, which offer a higher energy density, it can reach 19-watts per square foot vs. Tesla's 11W.
There are some clear differences in the design of the their respective solar roofs. Tesla's models are designed to mimic classic roofing designs.
Zach Taylor, CEO of Forward Labs, says the roof will cost $8.50 per square foot and $3.25 per watt for the solar. It's accepting preorders now with a planned release in 2018.
