Ahead of Google and Amazon, Microsoft will begin opening data centers in Africa next year. It'll start operating its cloud services from centers in Cape Town and Johannesburg, both of which are in South Africa. Those services include Azure and Office 365.
People using those services in South Africa should notice a performance improvement in the form of lower latency.
Major tech companies are beginning to establish a presence in the region. IBM opened its first data center in Johannesburg last year.
Neither Google nor Amazon have announced plans for expansions into Africa.
