Even though most of the comments received by the FCC were in favor of net neutrality, the agency has voted to overturn regulations. A 2-1 vote on Thursday came down in favor of a rollback. This begins the process of eliminating certain rules and removing the "common carrier" classification for ISPs.
A Notice of Proposed Rulemaking has been published. It includes getting rid of the Title II common carrier classification, though the FCC is asking for comments about what kind of rules could replace those regulations.
The FCC will continue taking comments on that matter until August 16.
Chairman Ajit Pai says this isn't "the end" of the process and it still has to figure out how to move forward. It'll be completing "credible cost-benefit" analyses before making final decisions.
