Microsoft has created a wearable device that could help reduce limb tremor in those with Parkinson's. The Emma Watch is a wrist-worn device that uses "vibrating motors" like those in smartphones to "distract the brain into focusing on something other than trying to control the patient's limbs." This has the effect of reducing abhorrent muscle activity.
Haiyan Zhang, director of Microsoft Research Innovation, created the wearable. The invention was highlighted during the BBC show The Big Life Fix in December 2016, leading to a lot of interest in the product.
Emma Lawton, a graphic designer with Parkinson's, was able to write and sketch again because of the Emma Watch.
Microsoft says we're still years away from the product being commercialized.
