FBI director James Comey explained on Wednesday during the 2017 Boston Conference on Cyber Security that people in the US shouldn't be expecting "absolute privacy." He stated there's effectively nothing that's truly private given the right circumstances.
Whether it's memories or digital files, people can be compelled to hand over information by the authorities.
At the same time as he was making that point, Comey also said, "We all value privacy. We all value security. We should never have to sacrifice one for the other." It's unclear how something isn't being sacrificed.
