Apple's next big iPhone change is the addition of OLED displays, which will replace the traditional LCD that is being used now. Apple will probably use OLED panels for all iPhones by 2019, but if you've been wondering what about performance, the Cupertino company also has something for you.
Apple is using GPUs made by Imagination Technologies, and the British-based company announced a brand new GPU architecture called PowerVR Furian. The new platform is the first major architecture upgrade since PowerVR Rogue, which premiered in 2010.
According to the company, the new PowerVR Furian GPUs will bring big performance improvements, while also being more efficient. The biggest addition is support for 4K, higher-resolution gaming, demanding machine learning apps, and improved augmented/virtual reality capabilities. These new GPUs won't be available in Apple iPhone 8, but future iPhones.
