Google's Duo video calling app has been updated with an audio-only calling option. The feature is targeted at developing markets that may not have the bandwidth necessary for reliable video calling. Users in Brazil will get the audio option first.
Duo has been around since last year, having originally debuted at Google I/O. Google confirmed in 2016 that it would be bring audio-only calling to the app.
This feature isn't going to use nearly as much data and Google says it'll work well on various connection speeds.
It's not entirely clear how well Duo will perform, especially as a distinct app from Allo, another messaging app from Google.
