A couple highly requested features are on their way to Pokemon Go. Niantic, the game's developer, says PvP battles and monster trading are going to arrive "soon." Part of the reason they're not yet available is that the game suffered server issues due to its initial popularity.
Niantic CEO John Hanke mentioned the upcoming features while talking with Vice.
It's going to be done soon. It is what it is. I'll take the massive wave of hysteria we enjoyed, and just deal with the fact that it's caused us to take a bit longer to get the rest of the features up. We're really happy to make our users happy.- Hanke
Hanke also said the game's success in 2016 provided Niantic with enough revenue to practically be funded "indefinitely."
