Google has been ordered by a Texas district court to pay $20 million for infringing upon anti-malware patents. It was determined that software in Chrome infringed upon four separate patents.
The case traces back to 2013 with a lawsuit from Alfonso Cioffi and Allen Rozman. A US district court initially dismissed the case in 2014, but the decision was appealed in federal court. The federal court overturned the initial decision.
Google attempted to bring the case to the US Supreme Court, but the case was denied. It maintains the patents involved are invalid.
