Tesla Begins Rolling Out Autopilot To HW2 Vehicles

Autopilot's release for Tesla's HW2 vehicles, which entered the market last year, has begun. It'll initially be enabled on the first 1,000 HW2 cars and it'll reach the others in "shadow mode." This update also improves the features available on HW1.
The update means the new autopilot hardware will begin to be useful. HW1 has actually been offering more autopilot features and it'll continue doing so for now. For example, although this update adds Autosteer to HW2, it'll be limited to 35 mph.

While the update is in shadow mode on the rest of the fleet, data will be sent back to Tesla. Autopilot won't actually be available, but vehicles will log when the system would have kicked in to prevent accidents. All HW2 vehicles should have Autopilot by the end of the week.

If all looks good, HW2 Autopilot functionality will switch from shadow to active mode by end of week for cars beyond initial 1000
Tesla couldn't initially offer these Autopilot features on HW2 due to the hardware mandating a significant update to the system.

HW2 will eventually allow for full autonomy. It'll become progressively more advanced with software updates.
