China Requiring App Stores Register With Authorities

China's Cyberspace Administration (CAA) has implemented a requirement that all app stores in the country must register with the government. Stores that don't register and possibly submit themselves to greater oversight won't be operating legally.
The agency justified this move in a notice by arguing its oversight will help protect users from apps that "have been found to spread illegal information, violate user rights or contain security risks."
Registration attaches a specific operating party to each store, giving the government someone to pursue when it wants an app to be removed.
