US Begins Asking Foreign Visitors For Social Media Info

To more thoroughly monitor who is visiting the United States, the government has begun requesting social media information from those using the visa waiver program. Travelers are asked to provide their Facebook, Google+, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn usernames.
This form of data collection is currently listed as optional. It's unclear if it may become mandatory or if there are consequences for not providing the info.
In order to screen for potential terrorists, US Customs and Border Patrol began utilizing social media information earlier in 2016. Some rights groups are concerned about how the data will be used and its impact on certain groups.
