Sacramento Plans To Allow Fully Autonomous Vehicles Without Drivers On Roads

Sacramento is working towards becoming the first city in California to let companies test autonomous vehicles on public roads without drivers behind the wheel. A permit for such tests has been requested by leaders in the city, particularly the Mayor's office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Ash Roughani, head of the Mayor's innovation team, says Sacramento wants to welcome cutting-edge technologies. They believe fully autonomous vehicles will ultimately make roads much safer.
This may let the public experience autonomous vehicles more as well, which could grow public interest in the technology.
We think they need to experience it to really appreciate and understand the value of an autonomous vehicle,- Roughani
