Google reveals security flaw in Microsoft Edge

Google has disclosed a security flaw in Microsoft’s Edge browser before the latter could patch it. As spotted first by Neowin, Google disclosed the issue back in November last year, giving Microsoft 90 days to fix the problem, before it went public. The issue is rated “medium” in terms of how severe it is.
Further, Google even gave Microsoft a grace period of 14 days to fix the problem, in its monthly Patch Tuesday release. However, Microsoft missed this deadline because “the fix is more complex than initially anticipated”. While it’s unclear when Microsoft will fix the issue, Google has now made the patch public, meaning the company will have to scram.
That said, Microsoft and Google have quibbled over security vulnerabilities for years now, and this is just the newest straw. Google had also disclosed a bug in Windows in 2016, and the company has always wanted the industry to follow the same aggressive disclosure policies that it follows. While the bug in question here isn’t very critical, it will still anger Microsoft, since it is now under pressure.
