Alphabet's Project Loon has activated its cellular service balloons in Puerto Rico to bring additional connectivity to the region, which was devastated by a hurricane. The company launched the balloons on Friday. They're providing access to AT&T customers who have 4G LTE handsets.
Two balloons, known as HBAL199 and HBAL237, are situated 60,000 feet above land. They're powered by solar energy and they only provide cell service during the day.
People can use their connection for texts, emails, and basic web access.
Alphabet received permission from the FCC to send up to 30 balloons to Puerto Rico.
