Mike Hopkins is now the former CEO of Hulu. He's departing the streaming company in favor of a position at Sony Pictures Television, a major Sony division that he'll be in charge of. Hopkins led Hulu for four years. Randy Freer, former president and COO of Fox Networks Group, is taking his place.
This move was unexpected by the public and it comes as Hulu is trying to grow its user base with live television streaming and a larger array of original content. Live TV streaming hasn't turned out to be a major business thus far, as only 300,000 people have signed up--Hulu has 15 million users.
At Sony, Hopkins will be in charge of TV production, distribution, and marketing.
