SpaceX has begun accepting applications for its next Hyperloop pod competition, which is scheduled for 2018. During the event, teams will compete on a 0.77-mile test track near SpaceX's headquarters in Hawthorne, California. This will be the third pod competition.
The second competition took place last month and it saw a pod from Munich's WARR Hyperloop team travel at 201 mph. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk believes future pods could travel as fast as 500+ mph. SpaceX is holding these competitions to figure out the best design for a pod, which could then influence the development of future Hyperloop systems.
Unlike in the first two events, pods must be self-propelled in this upcoming competition.
The application deadline is September 29, 2017.
