Google is making some changes to Street View to improve the quality of the service. It's upgrading its mapping vehicles with superior cameras and it's also using AI to enhance the images it captures and displays. The Street View car setup involves eight new cameras.
The upgraded camera rig captures sharper images, which improves the user experience for viewers. Those images will also help Google collect more data from pictures, which can then be shared when users have questions.
Moving forward, Street View cars will capture information like opening hours and the data from the system could be used to help Alphabet's Waymo, which is working on autonomous vehicles.
