Ford revealed on Wednesday it'll work with Lyft to make autonomous vehicles available within the ride-hailing service's network. The automaker is only a few years away from mass producing autonomous vehicles and ride-hailing services could be based on them.
Because Lyft is well-known and established player in the industry, it's easier for a company like Ford to partner with Lyft than to attempt creating its own ride-hailing service.
Lyft has been entering into partnerships with a number of companies to grow the autonomous vehicle side of its business. Outside of Ford, it's also working with GM and Waymo.
Together, Ford and Lyft will pick the cities that'll first receive the service and they'll work together on infrastructure.
