Snapchat is going to feature its own original shows by the end of the year, bringing the company down a path Facebook is also exploring. The company intends to offer 3 to 5-minute scripted episodes that'll build upon its existing content offerings from CNN and others.
Variety says Snapchat wants to make its move into scripted TV-like content by the end of the year.
Speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Snapchat's head of content Nick Bell explained how the company believes mobile viewing will be complementary to regular TV, not a replacement.
Mobile is the most complementary thing to TV that has been around. We're really capturing the audience who are not probably consuming TV at the same rate and pace of engagement that they once were.- Bell
