US Separating Cyber Command From NSA

The United States is going to separate Cyber Command, a more military-centric operation, from the National Security Agency (NSA). That change, which has been debated for some time, is going to be unveiled in the coming weeks, says the Associated Press. Cyber Command was put under the same command as the NSA when it launched in 2009.
From its launch, Cyber Command has had a different focus. It's based around cyberwarfare operations, while the NSA is more strictly focused on intelligence gathering. Sometimes those competing interests have created tension.
Cyber Command is reportedly going to be led by Army Lt. General William Mayville, who will replace Admiral Michael Rogers, the current head of the NSA. The NSA itself could end up being controlled by a civilian.
