Spotify has successfully negotiated a new royalty figure with Sony Music Entertainment. In return for having to give Sony and its artists less money, Spotify agreed to restrict new albums from the company to paying users for a period of two weeks post-release. All users can access the content after that point.
The music streaming service hopes to reach a similar deal with Warner.
Deals of this sort are meant to potentially improve Spotify's financial situation. The company is still encountering significant losses and it'd be good to improve its financial status before it's listed on the stock market in late 2017 or early 2018.
