Nintendo Switch Demand Higher Than The Company Expected

Before Nintendo officially announced its latest Switch gaming console, many were skeptical about Nintendo's ability make such product. Now, a few months later, the company has confirmed that global demand for the Switch has totally outstripped its expectations.
Nintendo's initial plan was to ship 2 million units by the end of March, but they had to increase production and have shipped 2.74 million units globally. Only the Japanese market accounted for at least 1 million units.
Also for comparison, Sony's PS4 took 49 weeks to hit 1 million in Japan, versus the Switch which took 17 weeks
"For Nintendo Switch, our initial plan for the fiscal year ended March 2017 was to ship two million units by the end of March, but we increased production which resulted in shipping 2.74 million units globally," Nintendo said in a statement to MCV UK. "For products like Nintendo Switch, it takes time to procure parts and run production, so we perform demand estimates far in advance of launch. Actual demand following the launch of these products surpassed our estimates globally."
