Apple Wants LG To Dedicate OLED Lines To iPhone Orders

To make sure its OLED supply is reliable for 2018 and beyond, Apple is reportedly going to invest in LG's new OLED production lines in exchange for becoming their sole customer. The Korea Herald claims Apple is close to reaching a deal with the company. It plans to invest $1.75 to $2.62 billion.
Samsung is the only display supplier for the iPhone 8, but Apple wants to diversify its sources for other upcoming devices. LG has a small share of the global OLED market right now, but its new production lines will help it become a notable supplier.
LG is specifically working on a plant, known as E6, that could launch in 2019. The company is said to be investing around $3.5 billion in OLED production. A good portion of that cost could be covered by Apple.
