Tokyo May Have 600 Autonomous Cabs By 2020 Olympics

Hundreds of autonomous taxis could be operating around Tokyo, Japan in time for the country's 2020 Olympics. Reuters reports robotics firm ZMP Inc. will work with Tokyo's Hinomaru Kotso, a cab company. Through that work, around 600 cabs will be upgraded with driverless technology.
Autonomous vehicles utilizing ZMP's technology have already appeared on the street, albeit with humans behind the wheel ready to take control. More complete autonomous vehicle tests will begin occurring this year.
ZMP thinks partnerships of this sort will help both the robotics and taxi industries grow as autonomous vehicles take over.
