Support for a larger variety of apps is going to be added to Siri, reports Reuters, though Apple plans to keep the assistant's app support relatively limited. It wants to ensure a small set of high-quality features are available rather than letting practically any third-party tap into Siri.
The voice assistant is currently working with six app types: ridehailing, messaging/calling, photo search, payments, fitness, and auto infotainment.
During WWDC, Apple is expected to announce an expansion of the number of categories Siri works with. It's also expected to be coming out with a Siri-based speaker, akin to the Amazon Echo.
Even with the additional categories, Siri will have far less than the 12,000 tasks available for Amazon's Echo.
