Xbox boss Phil Spencer doesn't believe the newly introduced Xbox One X is intended for the average consumer. Its $500 price tag places it out of the reach of many potential buyers, according to some analysts, but that doesn't sound like an issue from Microsoft's perspective.
Spencer told Ars Technica that most people are still going to buy the Xbox One S. He doesn't expect that console, which costs $249, to drop in popularity.
Obviously we don't know [the ratio]. When we designed [the One X], it's not that we expected it to become the number one console from us... Xbox One S is a great console for the everyday gamer, someone who's just looking to play games.- Spencer
Microsoft is trying to target the smaller portion of consumers who want a "premium experience." And in that space, he doesn't think the Xbox One X has any real competition.
