GameStop's systems were breached and some customer credit card information was stolen during an attack, the retailer has confirmed. Over the weekend, GameStop came out with a statement informing customers about the theft of "payment card data."
The only credit cards affected were those used on the retailer's website. GameStop was notified by a third-party that it appeared the data was being sold online.
GameStop says it's brought in a "leading security firm" to investigate the situation.
Based on what it currently knows, the company says names, addresses, and credit cards could have been stolen from anyone who "placed or attempted to place orders on our website from August 10, 2016 to February 9, 2017."
