US Could Require Social Media Info From Some Visa Applicants

Certain Visa applicants could be forced to hand over their social media handles from the past five years before they'll be granted a Visa. A proposal from the State Department includes that requirement. The extra requirement would only be in place for around 0.5% of applicants.
Those who are deemed to be at a higher risk of having a terrorist or otherwise problematic background can be further screened using social media. Other agencies have also been interested in utilizing social media histories.
The proposal also forces certain applications to give 15 years of certain biographical details (e.g. home addresses) and info on siblings.
