A 5G network from Sprint will be up and running by the end of 2019, the carrier has announced. It's not releasing much information about its planned 5G upgrade, though Sprint is known to be partnering with Qualcomm and SoftBank on the technology.
Sprint has only said it plans to offer a 5G network by "late 2019." It'll operate in the 2.5 GHz spectrum band. Sprint appears to be foregoing millimeter wave spectrum for the time being.
Other carriers, including T-Mobile and AT&T, have also laid out 5G upgrade plans, but it's not clear if any carrier will really offer a significantly upgraded network within 2-3 years.
