Microsoft's Beam Becomes 'Mixer,' Gains Features

Microsoft is updating its Beam livestreaming system and changing its name. The platform is now known as Mixer. It's receiving a series of feature additions and will get a dedicated page on the Xbox One Dashboard.
Why the name change? This was a tough decision, and not one that we made lightly. But, it was something that we decided on as a team. We believe so much in the power of the platform and want to grow it in every major market around the world. Unfortunately, that wasn't something we could do with the Beam name. We chose Mixer as our new name because it represents what we love most about the service… how it brings people together,- Matt Salsamendi, Mixer
The platform is marketed as a superior livestreaming platform since games are "actually live," meaning they don't have a 10-20 second latency like "you typically get on other platforms."
Among the new features is Co-Streaming, which lets up to four people combine their streams into a single video. A new option for streaming from mobile has also been added as a beta. It's available on Android and iOS, and it'll eventually enable mobile game streaming.
