Direct messages in Instagram can now include functioning web links. That portion of the app has also received an update that adds support for a wider array of photo formats. You can send pictures in their original portrait or landscape aspect ratios without any cropping.
Since it'll be easier to have full conversations in the direct messaging section of Instagram, not as many people will feel the need to use other messaging options.
The link support feature also includes inline previews of whatever you've linked to.
iOS users are receiving these updates first. Android will get them shortly.
