Facebook's moderation team disabled over 14,000 accounts just in January 2017 for guideline violations involving revenge porn and sexual extortion. The Guardian, which gained access to leaked Facebook moderator documents, reports 33 of the cases involved children.
Highly explicit, exploitative, and underage content isn't allowed on Facebook. However, its guidelines do allow for "moderate displays of sexuality" as well as sexual jokes, even of a very mature nature.
Moderators at the company escalated tens of thousands of potential violations just in January. The sheer number of reported posts could explain why Facebook often doesn't adequately deal with infringing content.
