A secret team within Apple is working on noninvasive sensors that can continuously monitor glucose levels in people with diabetes. CNBC reports Apple had been working on the project for five years and it's already begun feasibility trials.
Sensors of this kind would be a major improvement in diabetes care. If Apple's product makes it onto the market, it could help millions of people just in the US.
The optical sensors reportedly work by shining light through the skin to measure indicators of glucose.
Apple has acquired companies working in this general area in recent years, including Vital Connect, Masimo Corp, Sano, and Medtronic.
